I INTRODUCTION
United fate Service of America, Inc. (UPS), largest package-delivery smart set in the world. The company provides shipment of letters, parcels, and commitment worldwide. Based in Atlanta, Georgia, UPS is one of the largest privately owned companies in the United States.
II HISTORY
The company was founded in 1907 in Seattle, Washington, by 19- category-old Jim Casey, who saw the need for a private delivery service. At the time, the United States Postal Service had not yet introduced its parcel ring mail system. Casey named his company American Messenger Company, and with a crew of sextuplet messengers, began delivering messages and meals by bicycle. Soon the company acquired a Ford sit T automobile and seven motorcycles to deliver parcels for retail businesses. In 1913 the company merged with a competing service to form Merchants Parcel Delivery. By 1918 it was delivering packages from three of Seattles largest subdivision stores to their customers. By this time the company had adopted its signature brown color used on all of its trucks and uniforms.
In 1919 the company extended its operations by buy a delivery service in Oakland, California. That same year the company changed its name to United Parcel Service of America, Inc.
In 1930 the company relocated its headquarters to New York City and began delivering parcels for department stores there. Expansion continued rapidly, and by the 1950s UPS served stores in 16 U.S. metropolitan areas.
UPS began losing business in the late 1940s as more people migrated to the suburbs. With rising car ownership and balmy access to suburban shopping centers, customers began to take more of their purchases plate with them.
