In the mental picture The Birds by Alfred Hitchcock as well as in the short story The Birds by Daphne du Maurier, nature wreaks havoc on human beings. The movie and the story take place in seaside towns. Hitchcock chooses the seaside town of Bodega Bay, California for the movie setting. Du Maurier selects a seaside town in England. The residents of the towns are brutally antiaircrafted by birds that increase in viciousness with every attack. The wind seems to remove everyplacenight and it is winter. This shift in the weather sets the tone for the blasting change in the natural fix up of things to follow. The Birds story and The Birds movie prolong more differences than similarities.
Nat Hocken notices there are more birds than usual, over land and sea. Nat Hocken tries to protect his wife, his daughter Jill and his son Johnny from the unhoped brutal attack of seagulls, robins, finches, sparrows, larks and other types of birds. These are birds that normally stayed indoors their own flocks and territories and now had joined forces in their attack on mankind. In the movie, Mitch Brenner tries to protect his mother, Lydia, his sister Cathy and his girl friend Melanie Daniels from the attack of birds of all kinds. In both the story and the movie you have two men fighting nature to protect their families and mountain they love from danger.
