he intro starts off great by grabbing
the viewer's attention right in the beginning, but the movie appears
to go downhill from that point unfortunately. You can not very blame
the cast mainly because I thought the acting was relatively very good
overall; it boils down to the plot. The writers of this film were not
in a position to write a well-scripted plot to follow the storyline.
I see it all of the time with movies today: heavy on the unique
effects and less on substance. "Boogeyman" really didn't
have lots of special results until the end as soon as the audience
finally gets a seem with the highly anticipated boogeyman, which I
guess was the highlight from the film if you need to call it that.
I will say there had been a couple of
scenes that created me jump as a result of the very anticipated
suspense. Scare-wise, this movie doesn't even get close to the
classics like "The Exorcist", "The Shining" and
"Pet Cemetery" just to name a few. Those people 3 movies
have been able to scare the hell out of me in a way that very hasn't
been touched by any of movies today. I think it is a true shame that
"Boogeyman" and numerous other mediocre horror movies of
these days are unable to scare the hell out of audiences like "The
Exorcist" did back in 1973.
With all the technology advancements of
today, movie writers could come up with an original horrifying script
and blend it in on the very good particular benefits of these days
and produce a fantastic scary movie; it just hasn't been done whilst
with maybe the exception in the new "Amityville" movie.
"Boogeyman" needs a much better plot ahead of it can even
be regarded an original horror movie.
I say go away from all those dazzling
specific effects, which "Boogeyman" lacks as well, and go
back the basics: a good solid storyline. That's what produced the
aforementioned conventional horror flicks so scary was because of a
really solid storyline and they didn't require any fancy unique
benefits to frighten audiences; the key was simply substance.
"Boogeyman" lacks substance as do many the "so-called"
horror movies of today.
I wouldn't recommend this movie to any
person unless you like mediocre scary movies with poorly scripted
plots. Maybe one of these days, the movie individuals will figure out
the key toward making a really scary movie, but until then sit back
and enjoy the true horror classics.
