Bad News and Bad Thoughts Can Kill
In her short story The Story of An min Kate Chopins portrayal of Mrs. mallard gives justice to the storys unanticipated and peculiar climax. Chopin illustrates how incorrect information can be deceiving and bring out immoral thoughts; if combined with disease and daze can prepare a horrible outcome on people through the explanation of the characters actions, the voice communication of the narrator, and the description of Mrs. Mallards thoughts.
The actions of the characters illustrate how frail and ill Mrs. Mallard is and that they would do anything to postp nonpareil an unexpected death. Mrs. Mallards Sister Josephine was confirmatory and sheltering when telling of her hubbys death. Also Richards her husbands friend; who was one of the first to hear of Brentlys death, took the metre to clarify the news and made sure that no one else would convey the gloomy message (Chopin, 2011, para. 2). This showed that Mrs. Mallard was so wretched in health that if she got the news in an improper note or from someone that wasnt very close to her could have caused her to pass away. This also shows that the other characters thought that Mrs.
Mallard was so sick that she couldnt handle the news and wanted to entertain her in a time of sorrow.
The narrators words give a great portrayal of the relationship in the midst of the false news and how Mrs. Mallards thoughts formed. The narrator explained how she didnt take the news in the manner that others did, she was unable to master its terrifying impact. Then later explains how Mrs. Mallard tried to get by it but then embraced the excitement she was having about her husbands death and what was to come for her (Chopin, 2011, para. 3 and para. 10-11). This showed how hearing about her husbands death formed her thoughts.
