The Immigration Controversy Facts and Fallacies I believe that immigration is safe(p) for the United States. The U.S. was built by immigrants. Cultural diversity teaches commonwealth tolerance and social skills. Opening the borders to immigrants to enter legally and frame taxpaying citizens increases our countrys tax revenue. Allowing immigrants to live and net water legally gives them a sense of self-respect and makes this country a better place to live. I located an article that was promulgated in 1996 by the Washington Post.com about a give-and-take written by a journalist that believes that immigration should be slowed down and that the amount of immigrants in the 1970s and 1980s is significantly higher than it was previously. Although this article is 16 years old, I chose it because the mindset of people is contagious. Stories like this mislead people that do non think critically and use logic to determine the hardness of the information being presented. In an article by Roy Beck titled, The depicted object Against Immigration, the author states that the trends of rising U.S. salarys hit been reversed (pg 1). I believe this is a fallacy because the rate of minimum wage has risen progressively for years. In 1978 the minimum wage was $2.65 and in 2009 the rate was $7.25.

Another point the author brings up is that distress has increased. This is absolutely not true.
